Term 1 Class Descriptions
Small Wonders (Age 0-3 yrs or until potty trained)
Materials fee: $3
Supplies: Diaper bag w/name tag (including diapers / wipes, bottles, cups with lids,
personal baby supplies). PLEASE label everything.

Description: A fun, nurturing environment for our little ones. God’s love is shown by example through interaction. Babies are cuddled and toddlers are given the opportunity to be expressive through play strengthening motor skills. Colors and the alphabet will be introduced.
Leaping Lambs (Age 3, or potty trained, through Kindergarten)
Materials fee: $3
Student Supplies: Backpack (w/change of clothes), label everything with your child’s name.
Maximum: 12 children
Description: During our time together we will be worshiping, learning and playing together. The children will remain together for the whole three hours.
For Boys Only

Description: What do you get when you combine a study of the book “Squire and the Scroll” with life lessons that accompany the book, an emphasis on God’s calling for men to rise up and be leaders of their family, along with lessons on gentlemanly behavior, chivalry, manners and cool boy activities? Why - a class for boys only! (Girls too if they don’t mind a class geared towards boys.)
Girls Bible Study

Description: What do you get when you combine a study of the book “Squire and the Scroll” with life lessons that accompany the book, an emphasis on God’s calling for men to rise up and be leaders of their family, along with lessons on gentlemanly behavior, chivalry, manners and cool boy activities? Why - a class for boys only! (Girls too if they don’t mind a class geared towards boys.)
Culinary Adventure: Intro to Foods and Cultures Around the World
Materials fee: $5

Description: This course will endeavor to provide an introduction to foods and cultures primarily from Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas. The course will offer hands-on, age-appropriate culinary activities, food tastings, discussion of regional ingredients, people groups, cultures, and basic geography of each region covered.
Prerequisites: Cooking experience not required, eating experience helpful!
Allergies, Special Needs: Every effort will be made to offer vegetarian options each week, and parents are encouraged to share any food allergies/ intolerance with the instructor at the beginning of the session.
Instructor’s Note: Currently the plan is to dedicate 2 weeks to 4 regions with an overview week as the ninth H.I.S. Cooperative meeting. As an introductory course, students would be learning about and tasting common foods with the goal of broadening their tasting experience. No hot dogs or grilled cheese, but
perhaps crepes, egg rolls, and kid-friendly sushi (not raw) might make their way onto the menu! Join us to find out for yourself!
The ABC’s of Handling Money God’s Way

Description: Facts poorly taught rarely get a second thought, but for years kids will hold the stories they're told! Teach your little ones money management principles that'll stick with them for life. This Bible-based curriculum uses an interesting story and fun activities to teach kids the basics about money. Designed for ages 5 to 7, The ABC's of Handling Money God's Way features the adventures of Elizabeth, Paul, Sarah, and Juan as they try to save enough money to buy a puppy. As they find out how to earn, save, give and spend money, they also learn some important things about God. The 12 lessons in this book include full-color illustrations, simple Bible studies, hands-on activities, and a guided prayer journal. Together with the accompanying teacher's guide, this curriculum is an idea tool for parents, homeschoolers, Sunday school teachers and Christian school teachers.

Description: The Wright Brothers changed history with the first powered flight. Through a variety of creative exercises and activities explore what it might have been like to be the first in flight. As we travel back in time we'll also learn about how airplanes fly and the most historic aircraft and spacecraft. Come prepared to read, write, and participate in interesting discussions.
Dance and Cheer Basics

Description: This In this class we will learn the basics of Dance and Cheerleading. We will use Christian music for all of our dances. Please wear (or have a change of clothes) comfortable clothes such as shorts and a t-shirt and tennis shoes.
Creative Crafts

Description: Spend time creating crafts for both personal use and use around the house. We will do things like scrapbooking, home décor, card making and crafts for the Christmas season. Get ready to use to paint, thread, decoupage, fleece, scissors, stickers, buttons, candles, etc.
Medieval History Based Writing Lessons

Student Supplies: IEW Medieval History Based Writing Lessons Student Book, Second Edition*, 3-ring binder, with extra notebook paper and page dividers, pencils, thesaurus
Maximum: 10 students
Description: These lessons are designed to teach writing with structure and style using Medieval History themes. Teaching historical facts in the context of theme-based writing exercises, these resources will provide interdisciplinary lessons while encouraging greater writing proficiency. In class, we’ll also watch the corresponding Student Writing Intensive Level B DVD’s by Andrew Pudewa. Grammar and vocabulary is incorporated into the writing lessons. Weekly homework assignments.
*May be used for the following semesters if we continue the class for the full year.

Description: Eating Healthy Eating Local will explore what healthy eating is, how to eat healthy food that tastes yummy. The class will garner an opportunity to re-make their favorite snacks or meals into a more healthy meal. In addition, the benefits and impacts of eating local on the food economy will be explored, as well as what local foods Texans have access to.

Vet Tech

Description: This 4H Veterinary Science project is a multiple year curriculum and provides opportunities for students to work in the field with licensed veterinarians at their practice. It is career-oriented and job-training so students can determine if this is a field they would like to pursue. By doing this hands-on training, students learn the knowledge and skills expected of a veterinary assistant. This is a valuable addition to a resume and will help them prepare for a professional program degree from an accredited university. This program allows students to develop an interest in veterinary medicine, human medicine and other allied health fields. Homework: Weekly homework assignments, individual and group activities

Holiday Memories…Tastes, Sights, Giftings

Description - This class is for upper grades and is a compilation of holiday baking and crafts for decorating and for giving. There will be a small fee per class. Ideas include...floral arrangements, soap making, chocolate sauce, gift baskets, bath salts, marmalade and wreathes.
